The Brief

The University LnD team were tasked with developing the capability of the 3000 leaders and managers in response to the 18-month-old people strategy.

The Design Principles had been agreed upon within the experienced LnD team and it was important that the learning design was brain-friendly and informed by neuroscience and psychology.

SOF were asked to to support the trainers to learn more about how they could bring all the senses into a learning experience, give participants choice in how they participate and how they collaborate in their learning.

Creating a sense of confidence to be in a room with all levels of learners

Trainers to become more modern in their design and delivery approach

Confidence to ditch powerpoint to deliver learning (we loved this one!)

Developing the mindset to be more responsive and adaptable when running a workshop

The Solution

Using a blend of virtual masterclasses we laid the foundations of great facilitative training.

The group explored deep-dive sessions on:

  • How To Design A Workshop
  • Liberating Structures & How To Use Them In A Workshop
  • The Art Of Language & Body Language

The learning culminated in 1.5 day in-person workshop where everyone was invited to practise and play with what they had learned, running their own training sessions and receiving feedback.

The Outcome

In their own words…

“The team found it very valuable to take some time out of a busy workload to be with their colleagues and refresh knowledge and practise new skills.  Feedback is that they would welcome further opportunities to and protected time for learning.

Kirsty and her team have a wealth of knowledge and experience and worked hard to tailor the programme to our requirements.

Really enjoyed working with Kirsty and I felt like a valued client to her.  She handled a team of mainly very experienced facilitators (some of whom thought they didn't need to attend the programme) skilfully.”
